Learning Objectives: Prepare an outline and text for presentations in which there is a clear thesis; an engaging introduction; multiple, focused supporting points; a logical and effective organization of ideas; and a conclusion that opens the argument to wider application. Use and cite sources appropriately. Use research and analysis to develop an oral presentation. Part 2 of your reading in Perusall this week teaches outlining skills. Make sure that you have read this prior to starting this assignment. Your goal is to submit your individual presentation outline. Make sure that your outline is organized with an introduction, body (focusing on 2-5 key points), and a conclusion. The only time that you should write out full sentences is if you are quoting directly from a source. Make sure that you are only utilizing key words to prompt you along as you speak. This is not an essay! An outline should highlight your key words only. Your topic options for this assignment are: Think about your dominant culture. Share some of your established rituals, language, values, and social customs. Using the information in learning module three, explain your culture based on Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. Discuss the impact of social media on our communication. What are the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing social media? What are the positive and negative effects of social media? What are some rules that one should follow when utilizing social media? These are broad topics that you will need to narrow and focus your speech on answering just one of these questions. Reference learning module four as you plan your presentation. Answer the question, “who are you?”, utilizing key terms from module five. Terms you could use in your speech include looking glass self, social comparisons, self-fulfilling prophecy, self-concept, and self-esteem. Think about your audience and why we would need to know this information, perhaps to consider our own definitions of ourselves? Your outline will be graded on the following: Outline is submitted as a word document in key word format Outline utilizes an appropriate outline structure (topical, chronological, spatial) Outline is organized with an introduction, body, and conclusion Outline contains a body organized with 2-5 key points and support Outline is grammatically correct Each bullet point is worth two points for a total of 10 points (out of the total 100 points available for the individual presentation assignment.
