The goal of this assignment is to gain a more in-depth understanding of what takes place in an actual crisis and the need for crisis management. For this paper you will look at two extreme crisis situations that, sadly, included the loss of life. You will research the circumstances of the Astroworld Festival from November 2021, and the Root 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas from October 2017. A crowd crush at Astroworld was the cause of people dying, while a mass shooter was the cause of deaths in Las Vegas.
After gaining an understanding of what happened at those events, you will do more research to learn how each of the events handled the crisis while it was taking place. You will also investigate what pre-event crisis management had taken – or not taken – place for each event. Finally, you will research how both events dealt with crisis communications throughout and after the day of the actual crisis event.
Once you have done your research, use it, as well as this week’s readings and classwork to write your comparative analysis (approx. 5 pages, 12 pt font double spaced – it can go over 5 pages).
You will compare and contrast at least three approaches to crisis management that each event took before, during, and after the event. Consider both similarities and differences. For instance, look at Prevention efforts, Containment efforts, and Positive Counter Actions.
Be sure to cite your research and any sources you have read for class. You must use proper APA style for referencing. (References at the end of the paper do not count toward length of paper). All sources should be credible.

Develop a list of similarities and differences.
Once you know your basis for comparison, think critically about the similarities and differences between the items you are comparing, and compile a list of them. Your list is not yet your outline for the essay, but it should provide you with enough similarities and differences to construct an initial plan.
Develop a thesis based on the relative weight of similarities and differences.
Once you have listed similarities and differences, decide whether the similarities overall outweigh the differences or vice versa. Create a thesis statement that reflects their relative weights. I want you to tell me if the way the crises were handled were more similar or different to each other.
