Directions: This project, worth 50 points, will be graded using the rubric provided. You will be assessed
primarily by how well you show your work, but this assignment is most importantly about helping you get
started on your project.
Fill this out as completely as possible IN A SEPARATE DOCUMENT (i.e., do not include any text of this
document besides TITLE, INTRODUCTION, EXTENDED OUTLINE, and REFERENCES). Turn it into
Canvas before the end of Week 13. Specific dates are available on Canvas.
Title (5 points): Try to think of something creative that expresses what your paper/argument is about without
simply stating what it is about. This is the first step in grabbing a reader’s attention.
Introduction (10 points): Then, summarize your project in about 250 words. Start off with an interesting topic
sentence and lead-in. Discuss what you plan on arguing/explaining/showing in your paper. Then, follow this up
with a couple of facts or references that support your argument/explanation. Finally, have a strong, clear thesis
statement that makes explicit the focus of your paper.
Extending the Outline to Writing (10 points): Based on what you discussed in your abstract form and the
feedback I’ve given you, please elaborate in further detail on the following questions in a 2–3-page written
format. These responses should be written as if they will be part of your paper; they should be coherent,
consistent with the introduction, and focused on the topic – they should not be addressed at me or in a way that
makes them appear as if you are answering the questions.
a. Why is this topic important? Provide a convincing statement or two.
b. What class concepts are you using to make your point? Elaborate on them.
c. How are you planning on performing/have you performed your methodology? (Dates, times,
questions, methods, etc.). For research projects, this should be a summary of where you are
finding your resources/references.
d. How does your method/research help to show what you are doing?
e. What problems are you facing, if any? Has anything unexpected happened (in a positive or
negative way)?
f. What are your preliminary results/thoughts/conclusions about what you have researched?
g. Do you need to change anything about your project? How can we solve this?
Complete Reference List (25 points): Provide me with a formatted bibliography in APA/MLA format of all of
your required sources so that I can verify them, help you find better ones, and make sure the sources are useful
to your project. TALK TO THE LIBRARIAN, if you are struggling!
– Annotated Bibliography: You must provide a 100-150-word summary for each source to demonstrate
how you plan to use it. This means you need to have read the source before you submit it. It will be
obvious to me if you have not investigated your source, and you will not receive credit.
This is meant to help you do as well as you possibly can on the final publish! Take advantage of this
opportunity to work through your project so that you have a good idea of what you’re doing. Finally, this
is also the last chance you have to get written feedback from me before your presentation and final publish.
