Dreams can come true, but there is a secret. They’re realized through the magic of persistence, determination, commitment, passion, practice, focus, and hard work. They happen a step at a time, manifested over years, not weeks. Elbert Hubbard
This week is the last week of the course. It’s hard to believe, but you are now one term further in your education. Thus, this week is a time to celebrate and look to the future! This week, you will have two tasks. The first discussion assignment will involve having a final (for this course) visit with your mentor to discuss how they personally “Pursue Happiness” and to discuss strategies for overcoming difficulties and challenges in life. You will share those findings with your peers. Your second assignment is to write a letter to your future self as a way to reflect and review where you have been and where you are going! That assignment will be shared with the instructor and tucked away for your review at the end of your educational journey.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of this week, you should be able to
Articulate how various people understand happiness and how that relates to the science of happiness.
Discuss strategies for building grit and resilience.
Explain where you are and where you are going with your career and life.
For this assignment, you should arrange a 30- to 60-mminute interview with your mentor. In the meeting, ask your mentor the following:
Are there times in your career or life when you have struggled? How did you overcome those struggles? What did those struggles teach you?
What do concepts of grit and resilience mean to you? You may need to define these constructs for the mentor.
How do you define success? Happiness?
What three or four things do you think I should take with me as I work on my degree and my career?
At the end of the meeting, be sure to thank your mentor for their help over the last few weeks, and as appropriate, ask your mentor if they would be willing to meet with you periodically into the future to offer you school and career mentorship and encouragement.
Submit the following to the discussion board:
A summary of what your mentor told you in the first three questions.
Details of what the mentor shared for item four.
Your thoughts and reactions to this last meeting with your mentor.
Submission Instructions:
Due Friday evening at 11:59 PM CT—your initial post. There isn’t a set length for the post, but in order to thoroughly address the material, your post is likely to be 250 words or more.
Important - Read this before proceeding
