For this assignment, you will be tasked with identifying and explaining one of the following crime classifications:
White-Collar Crimes (Ponzi schemes, medical fraud, etc.)
Cyber Crimes (identity theft, stalking, etc.)
From the classifications above, select and describe the criminal felony act you are interested in investigating. Include and explain the applicable California Penal Code Violation(s) and the possible sentence associated with the violation(s). Also, incorporate statistical information about the felony act(s) to demonstrate such criminal activity’s impact on the Criminal Justice System.
With all three institutions in mind (policing, courts, and correction), identify an issue in each institution relating to the crime you selected. This will require you to identify, describe, and discuss a contemporary issue related to the criminal felony acts) you selected above. Ask yourself the following questions to get started:
Are there any issues policing such violations?
How do the courts handle such cases?
Is rehabilitation possible?
You must summarize and discuss at least two sources (news, media, scholarly) that speak to the issue and explain the connection to each institution. You will then synthesize what you have learned in class to analyze the issue further. This analysis will require you to locate two news or empirical sources discussing the issue.
