For this essay you will use what you have learned about the American West in the course through watching the video on Wounded Knee, reading the textbook, and reading the documents found in Chapter 17 of The American Yawp Documents Reader.
Write a research essay of at least 1000 words answering the following questions. (Please use Times New Roman 12pt font, and double-space your essay). You should begin with a title page and end with a bibliography page.
In what ways did U.S. government policy and cultural bias combine to bring about the devastation of Native American culture in the West? What did the national mindset have to be for this to happen? What consequences do native peoples face today because of decisions made in the 19th century?
You must cite all of your sources using Chicago citation–that is a footnote for each quote and a bibliography page at the end of your paper listing all four of your sources in correct Chicago format. You will need to cite at least three of the primary documents in the link above. You must also find one additional scholarly source to provide evidence for your answer to the third question–be sure your source comes from a reputable website or news agency.

Remember that “C” is average, thus doing the minimum work to complete these criteria will result in that grade. An “A” or “B” grade shows excellent work in writing, research, and citation.
