Instructions
Choose a cultural group (race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, et cetera) to explore.Choose a group that is as significantly different from your own culture as possible.
Plan to spend an extended period of time in that culture, perhaps over several hours over several days or weeks. Do not write about an experience you had prior to taking this course.
Conduct research about the group you selected using primary sources, such as written works about the history of this group written by members of this group.Films, poetry, music, art, and other expressions of culture are all appropriate to use in your study.
In addition, speak to and interview people from this group, including students, parents, and particularly leaders in the community. Invest an extended period of time in attending religious services, festivals, club meetings, and other rich places of cultural immersion.
Based on this experience, use a digital tool to develop a presentation and lecture for the class to last about 10–15 minutes, not including a question-and-answer period.
In addition, provide a 6 page handout about your cultural exploration and how this experience broadened your awareness specifically for the group you examined.In the handout, include a list of scholarly and Internet resources.
Include a link to your recorded presentation in the handout.
